General knowledge, explained
Did you know frozen water takes up 9% more space?
That’s why ice floats. And that’s Knowa in a nutshell: amazing facts, turned into a game. Three surprising topics a day, across eleven themes, with a real explanation after every question.
Free · No ads · English and French
A topic is seven questions, three choices each, about three minutes.
Every day the app picks three surprising topics for you, based on your tastes. Three topics, and the day is done — Knowa is made for a few minutes a day, not for hours on your screen.
You guess
Three answers, no idea. You pick one anyway — every question can be reasoned out.
You discover
Not a dry “correct!”, but a real explanation: the why behind the fact, in thirty seconds.
You retain
Questions you miss come back a few days later, right when your memory was about to let them go.
Go on, try one.
A real question, straight from the catalog. Guess first — that’s the whole method.
Nature · Honey Found in Tombs Is Still Edible
Sealed jars of honey were placed in ancient tombs as gifts for the dead. When archaeologists opened some of them thousands of years later, what was inside?
The explanation
Honey is one of the very few everyday foods that can wait thousands of years and still be honey. Old honey often turns into a solid, grainy block instead of golden syrup, but that is only sugar forming crystals, not rot. Warm the jar gently and the crystals melt back into liquid honey.
Worth keeping: honey can survive thousands of years in a sealed jar without spoiling.
One of seven questions in “Honey Found in Tombs Is Still Edible” — the next six explain why it never spoils.
Space · Footprints On The Moon Never Blow Away
A footprint on a beach is gone by morning. The prints left on the Moon over fifty years ago are still sharp. What does the Moon lack that erases prints on Earth?
The explanation
On Earth, wind and rain do the erasing, and both need air. The Moon's air is so thin it may as well not be there: no breeze, no drizzle, no storms, ever. A boot pressed into the grey powder leaves a shape, and then nothing comes along to smooth it out. No gust, no puddle, not even a falling leaf.
Worth keeping: wind and rain both need air, so a world with almost no air has no weather to erase anything.
One of seven in “Footprints On The Moon Never Blow Away” — one of 121 topics in the catalog.

Trivia apps were driving us crazy. So we did the opposite.
Ads everywhere, rote questions, never an explanation. You’d score points and learn nothing. Knowa is a smart quiz with explanations, where every question can be reasoned out.
Searching for the answer before knowing it makes you remember more
Even when you get it wrong. Call it microlearning or spaced repetition — either way, that’s how things stick.
A cloud weighs more than a hundred elephants.
And it still floats above you
Footprints on the Moon never blow away.
No air, no wind, no rain
Test your general knowledge. Better yet, grow it.
