No account required, no ads, no ad trackers, no data resale. Knowa measures what it needs to improve its topics, and nothing more. This page says exactly what that is.

What stays on your phone

Your settings, your streak, the explanations you keep, the times of day you play (to schedule notifications) and the catalog cache are stored on your device, and only there.

Your play history is stored on your device too; part of what it summarizes feeds your learning profile, a copy of which goes to our servers — the section “What is sent to our servers” spells it out.

Knowa turns off Android's automatic backup: nothing is copied into your Google space, and uninstalling the app deletes all of this data.

The installation identifier

On first launch, Knowa draws a random identifier (a UUID) that contains neither your name, nor your address, nor anything from your phone. It keeps your topic selection stable and lets the app find your learning profile again.

What is sent to our servers

• Anonymous counters per topic: how many times a topic was shown, opened, finished, liked, and how long its explanations were read. These counters are aggregated, with no identifier.
• A copy of your learning profile, stored under your installation identifier: your theme affinities, a summary of your tastes, the days served, the topics offered to you, opened or finished, and your total answers and correct answers. It restores your selection if you reinstall the app.

This data is hosted on Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, and Firebase Storage for images). Google acts as a hosting processor.

Crash reports

If the app crashes, an anonymous technical report goes to Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service that acts here again as a processor.

The report contains the failing point in the code, your device model, its system version and the app version, as well as a short technical log of the latest anomalies encountered — a content document that was set aside, a piece of data that could not be sent; the topic involved may be named in it. It contains neither your name, nor your answers, nor the installation identifier described above.

It is used only to fix crashes.

Notifications

The times of day you play are learned on your device and never leave it. Notifications are scheduled locally; no external notification service is used.

Support email

Writing to contact@appknowa.com shares your email address and the content of your message, used only to reply to you.

This website

appknowa.com is a static website: it sets no cookies, embeds no trackers and loads nothing from any other domain.

Your rights

You can delete your data from the app's settings (“Delete my data”): the server copy of your profile is erased, everything on the phone as well, and the app starts fresh with a new identifier. The full walkthrough is on the Delete my data page.
